INTEL, FEDEX, MAILCHIMP AMONG WINNERS OF 2013 CORPORATE HUMOR AWARDS
Awards celebrate individuals and organizations using humor in the workplace.

Intel, FedEx, and Mailchimp were among the winners of the first ever Corporate Humor Awards, presented by Humor That Works. The awards, touted as the Oscars of humor in the workplace, are meant to “shine a light on people and companies using humor at work.”

Intel won the Humorous Beginnings Award for Best Onboarding Program which includes literally rolling out the red carpet for new employees: “New Hires walk along a red carpet during the first day of orientation that’s lined with photographers taking pictures. They then introduce themselves onstage and get applauded into the company.”

FedEx won for Best Recognition Program (specifically their Humanitarian Award), and MailChimp won for Best Website. There were also winners for Best Training, Best Perk, and Best Corporate Culture, which went to web startup PhotoBiz.

In total, 18 awards were given out to companies and individuals. All nominations were user-submitted and the winners were selected by a panel of corporate humorists, including award founder, Andrew Tarvin.

“We are very happy with the first year of the awards. We set out to celebrate individuals and organizations who use humor to improve the workplace, and we have 18 great examples of people and companies doing exactly that,” says Tarvin.

“Study after study shows the business value of using humor and it’s time we recognize those efforts and, selfishly, find some ideas that we can share and reapply to our own work.”
